Not too late to vote in Local Government elections

Electors who have yet to vote in the Local Government elections may still do so, but now need to drop their ballot material into their local council office.

Ballot material mailed now is unlikely to make it back on time to be counted on Saturday (21 October) but electors can drop their envelopes into their local council office during normal business hours, or throughout the day on Saturday. The deadline for receipt of votes is 6.00 p.m.

Voting deadline looms for Local Government elections

Electoral Commissioner David Kerslake has issued a final reminder to Western Australians to make sure they cast their vote in the Local Government elections.

‘Councils make a wide range of important decisions that affect us all, so we all should have our say in how we want our local community to be run’, Mr Kerslake said.

A record number of Local government candidate nominations

Nominations for the 2017 Local government ordinary elections have now closed.

Returning officers have taken nominations from a record total of 1,146 candidates for the 450 vacancies up for election at the 89 local government ordinary elections being run by the Commission.

Local government nominations closing soon

With the deadline for nominations fast approaching, Electoral Commissioner David Kerslake has urged Western Australians to consider nominating for election to their local council.

Electors in 139 councils across the State will soon be voting for their representatives, with nominations closing at 4 p.m. on Thursday 14 September.

“Local councils make important decisions that affect our everyday lives. It is therefore important to have quality candidates for these positions”, Mr Kerslake said.
