Nomination processes
State Government
Candidates may nominate for the Legislative Council or the Legislative Assembly after a writ for a State election is issued, up until the close of nominations. For more information, see Nominations.
The Candidates Guide - Legislative Assembly and Candidates Guide - Legislative Council are Commission publications designed to assist candidates and registered political parties in understanding how the State election process works, from nominating through to counting the votes and declaring a result. They also outline the responsibilities of candidates throughout the election to comply with electoral legislation. The Commission aims to provide assistance to candidates, but is unable to provide legal advice.
Local Government
Candidates nominating for a local government election can refer to Local Government Candidates for key information and assistance with successful nomination applications. The Candidate's Pack also includes useful guides produced by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.
