Nominations for the 2017 Local government ordinary elections have now closed.
Returning officers have taken nominations from a record total of 1,146 candidates for the 450 vacancies up for election at the 89 local government ordinary elections being run by the Commission.
This was 125 more candidates than nominated at WAEC run elections in 2015… which was also a record at that time. No vacancies remained unfilled and 46 positions were elected unopposed.
In the Perth metropolitan area the City of Joondalup lead the way with 35 candidates contesting 7 vacancies, followed by the City of Stirling with 32 candidates contesting 8 vacancies.
Outside the metropolitan area the City of Bunbury had 29 candidates nominate, while the Town of Port Hedland had 23.
