The nomination period for the 19 October 2019 local government ordinary elections opens today, Thursday 5 September.
Persons interested in standing for one of the 90 local governments for whom the Commission is running the election, are recommended to use Nomination Builder.
All West Australians are reminded that electoral rolls for this year’s local government ordinary elections will close at 5.00pm Friday 30 August 2019.
Electors on the State electoral roll are automatically able to vote in the local government district or ward in which they live. Anyone uncertain about their residential enrolment status can check it here.
At the coming local government elections, the Commission will be employing a number of casual staff on election day and/or night (Saturday, 19 October 2019) at particular local governments. The precise location of this work won’t be known until closer to the election but interested persons are encouraged to express their interest.
In addition, casual staff are required to work at our central processing centre in the Perth CBD for a period of about three weeks leading up to election day.
All persons wishing to nominate as a candidate at the forthcoming local government elections are required to have first successfully completed the online candidate induction module. Completing the module is mandatory irrespective of whether an individual is a first time candidate or a long standing councillor.
The induction module is available via the Department of Local Government, Sport & Cultural Industries website. The Department will be maintaining a register of those who have completed the induction.
Proposed boundaries are now published and written objections invited.

While election day will be Saturday 19 October 2019, rolls for these elections will close at 5.00pm Friday 30 August.
Most councils opt to have their election conducted as a postal ballot, although many smaller (in terms of the number of electors) country councils run their elections as in-person ballots. The timetables for both election formats are available on this site.

The Western Australian Electoral Distribution Commission is now inviting public comments on suggestions which have been received for the review of State electoral boundaries. Comments close Monday 13 May 2019 at 5.00 pm.
