Polling Closes at 6pm today

The Commission has received its last delivery of voting packs from Australia Post this morning. If you still have your voting pack and want to have your say in your Local Government elections take your completed voting pack into your local council office between the hours of 8.00 am and 6.00 pm. If you have mislaid your postal vote pack, you can apply for a replacement pack at your council office and it will be issued on the spot.

Polling Closes Tomorrow

It is now too late for electors to post their voting packs in the Local Government elections back to the Electoral Commission. For those people who haven’t posted them, and want to have a say about who represents them in Local Government, the option is to take your envelope into their local council office during normal business hours today, or tomorrow Saturday 19 October between the hours of 8.00 am and 6.00 pm.

If you have mislaid your postal vote package you can go to your council office and apply for a replacement package which can be issued on the spot.

Having your say in your community

Electors are actively voting for those people they would prefer to represent them in their local communities, and over 250,000 voting packs have been completed and returned to the Commissions Processing Centre in Perth.

It is important that those people who haven’t yet made their choices, do so in the next day or so and put them in the letterbox, to allow for Australia Post to get them back to the Commission by Friday next week.

To make sure your vote counts, you must sign the declaration flap on the ballot paper envelope.

Voting Underway

All the Local Government election packages (1,532,660) for the postal elections that the Commission are running, have now been produced and progressively lodged with Australia Post. Those the greatest distance away from Perth were lodged first and some electors (5,655) have already voted and posted them back to the Commission.

Daily updates showing election packages returned to the Commissions’ Processing Centre are available here.

Voting Packs in the post

Voting packs for most country councils have now been lodged with Australia Post and should start to reach electors over the next few days.  Lodging of postal packages for Perth metropolitan electors is also continuing over the coming days. As there are over 1.5 million packages to deliver, it will take days following lodgement for them all to be delivered.

Campaigning has commenced

Ballot papers, with candidate profiles, are now being printed for the 178 contested Local Government elections being held across the State. These elections have 964 candidates vying for 378 vacancies and the voting packs will be lodged with Australia Post from Friday this week. Over 1.5 million voting packs are being sent to electors.

Polling closes on 19 October but electors are encouraged to have their say and get their completed voting packs back in the mail as soon as they can.

Nominations have now closed

As of 4.00 pm this afternoon, Thursday 12 September, candidate nominations for the forthcoming local government ordinary elections have closed.

Once Returning Officers have completed their draws for ballot paper position, the names of all candidates contesting each election being run by the Electoral Commission will appear on this website.
