Vote counting update

Counting of votes in the State general election is nearing completion.  Updated results are available on the 2017 State election page.

Legislative Assembly

The final full distribution of preference counts for Legislative Assembly districts will be conducted on Thursday 23 March.

As each district is finalised, this is flagged on the Legislative Assembly – District Vote Summary screen as “Result Declared”. The formal declaration by the Returning Officer usually follows within a couple of days depending on considerations such as availability of candidates.

Legislative Council

The process of checking and counting Legislative Council ballot papers is more involved than that for the Assembly and typically takes longer, with the results data entered into the Commission’s vote counting system to be counted electronically.

Once all ballot paper votes have been data entered each Returning Officer will separately initiate the electronic count and then declare the result. Results for the final Legislative Council Regions are now likely to be posted on Friday 24 March.
