The Electoral Commissioner received the election writs from the Governor on the afternoon of Wednesday 1 February. This formally initiates the election process and means that candidates can now start nominating to contest one of the 59 seats in the Legislative Assembly or 36 seats in the Legislative Council.
Candidate nominations close at 12.00 noon Friday 10 February 2017. Registered political parties may nominate their candidates on mass up to 12.00 noon Thursday 9 February.
