Registration of Political Parties

To be able to include a party name adjacent candidate names on a ballot paper, political parties must be registered in compliance with the Electoral Act.

Amongst other things, this requires the party to have a least 500 members who are enrolled on the State electoral roll. Once the Commission has confirmed that enrolment and membership requirements have been met, the proposed party name must be publicly advertised for a period of one month to allow any comments or objections to the proposed name to be lodged and then considered prior to possible registration.

The Commission is presently dealing with a number of parties seeking registration under the State Act. The following party names are currently out for public comment or objection:

  • Pauline Hanson’s One Nation
  • Socialist Alliance WA
  • Fluoride Free WA Party
  • The Flux party - WA
  • Micro Business Party

Political parties which are already registered to contest the 2017 State general election are listed under the Candidates and Parties tab above.
