Annual returns by political parties and their associated entities for the 2018–2019 financial year can now be viewed on the Western Australian Electoral Commission’s website.
The disclosure of political donations is an important legislative requirement, enabling the public to see who, when and how much money has been given to political parties and their associated entities. Annual returns for the 2018–2019 financial year have been lodged by twenty political parties and five associated entities. A total of $17,633,044.75 in gifts and other income has been disclosed in this round of returns.
Under the provisions of the Electoral Act 1907, annual returns are to be lodged by 30 November or the next business day if that date falls on a weekend, as was the case this year. The public are then able to view the annual returns from the Commission’s website four weeks after the required lodgement date.
The annual returns can be accessed from the “Funding and Disclosure” page of the Commission’s website, www.elections.wa.gov.au.
