Nominations Closing for Local Government Elections

Media Release Date
Monday, 9 September, 2019

With the deadline for nominations fast approaching, Electoral Commissioner David Kerslake has urged Western Australians to consider nominating for election to their local council.

Electors in local government districts across the State will soon be voting for their representatives, with nominations closing at 4 p.m. on Thursday 12 September 2019.

“Local councils make important decisions that affect our everyday lives.  It is therefore important to have quality candidates for these positions”, Mr Kerslake said.

Mr Kerslake said that he was pleased with the early level of candidate interest.

‘As at 8.15 am today we had already received 283 nominations and are gearing up for rush hour, with candidates often waiting until the last day to submit their forms.  Just don’t leave it until too late”, he said.

Information about the nomination process and contact details for each Returning Officer is available on the Electoral Commission website www.elections.wa.gov.au.

All prospective candidates are reminded that they must now complete the mandatory online induction module available at www.dlgsc.wa.gov.au before they can nominate.

Typically, successful candidates are elected for a period of four years.
