Electoral Commissioner David Kerslake has issued a last reminder to Western Australians to make sure they have their say in the State general election.
As at the official close of rolls 1,593,000 electors were registered to vote in the forthcoming election.
Around 200,000 of those electors have already voted at early voting centres around the state, a significant increase compared with 80,000 early votes cast at the last State election.
However, that still leaves many who will be voting at one of 747 polling places on Election Day Saturday 11 March.
“There is an old saying: if you don’t vote, you get the government you deserve! In my view, you forego all right to complain about government decisions if you don’t join in”, Mr Kerslake said.
Polling places open at 8.00 am on Election Day and close at 6.00 pm, but Mr Kerslake’s advice is not to leave it till late in the day.
“If you turn up at one minute past 6 you can’t be allowed in”, he said.”
A list of polling places that will be open on Saturday is available at the election website www.elections.wa.gov.au and will be published in tomorrow’s edition of The West Australian. Alternatively electors can call the Commission’s helpline 13 63 06.
Election results will be posted progressively on the election website from around 7.00 p.m.
Voting in the State election is compulsory.
