Media Release Date
Saturday, 19 October, 2019

The Electoral Commission has advised that the counting of results has concluded for the evening.  Results that have been declared are available on the Commission’s website at https://www.elections.wa.gov.au/elections/local/election#/.

The Commission conducted 90 of 136 local government elections across the State with 11 elected entirely unopposed and 79 involving contested ballots. Counting was undertaken from 6.00 pm throughout the evening at local governments across the State from Halls Creek in the north to Esperance in the south.

The counting of Councillor ballot papers for the City of Greater Geraldton will resume tomorrow morning and we are still awaiting verification of the Lake Grace result.

Mr Avent thanked the more than 1000 candidates for their commitment and the participating members of the community who took the opportunity to have their say in the formation of their local government.

“Although elector participation rates were generally down on 2017, a high number of candidates put themselves forward to serve their communities”, Mr Avent said.
