Acting Electoral Commissioner Chris Avent has issued a reminder to Western Australians to make sure they cast their vote in the Local Government elections.
‘‘Councils make a wide range of important decisions that affect us all. We should all have our say in how we want our local community to be run. Voting at these elections is one way we can influence local decision making’’, Mr Avent said.
Postal voting packages have been sent out progressively over the past week or so and already over 195,000 completed ballot papers have been returned within the first six days of returns.
Electors have only until 6.00 pm on Saturday 19 October for their votes to be returned.
‘’To allow time for mail delivery, it is important for electors to post back their ballot papers now, without delay’’.
The last-minute option is for electors to drop their ballot material into their local council office in person.
Mr Avent also reminded electors that for their vote to be accepted, they must sign the declaration on the elector certificate attached to the ballot paper envelope.
