The WA Electoral Commission has commenced distribution of postal voting packages for the upcoming local government elections.
Acting WA Electoral Commissioner Chris Avent said that voting packages for most country councils have now been lodged with Australia Post and should start to reach electors over the next few days. The Commission has also commenced lodging postal packages for electors in Perth metropolitan districts and this will continue over the coming days.
“With over 1.5 million packages in total, it will take several more days following lodgement for them all to be delivered”, Mr Avent said.
He urged electors to make sure they have their say on who will represent them on their local council.
‘’The Commission has taken nominations from over 1000 candidates. We hope to see that level of interest flow through to the number of votes recorded”, Mr Avent said.
Mr Avent reminded electors that ballot papers must be received by Saturday 19 October and to make sure they sign the certificate on their ballot paper envelope.
“When ballot material is returned we detach the elector certificates from each envelope to preserve the secrecy of every vote”, he said.
Elector enquiries may be directed to the Commission’s Call Centre on 1300 661 136 or to the Commission’s website https://www.elections.wa.gov.au/
