14 March Election Bulletin

Update: Vote counting arrangements

This bulletin is to provide an update on vote counting arrangements at the WAEC Count Centre over the coming days.

The latest results are posted progressively to the website each day.

Scrutineers

Scrutineers may be appointed to observe the counting of votes at the WAEC Count Centre.

In order to access the count, scrutineers will need to present themselves to WAEC staff at the Count Centre to submit their “Scrutineer Appointment and Declaration” form (PP16), if they have not already done so, and collect their yellow vest and name badge.

One scrutineer is allowed per candidate / party at a counting table at one time.

Legislative Assembly

The Commission is continuing to count all categories of votes (early and declaration) with priority being given to close districts. Once all votes have been counted, a full distribution of preferences will be conducted at the WAEC Count Centre, with the exception of the districts of Geraldton, Kimberley and Central Wheatbelt where the count will be conducted locally.

The Commission is hoping to commence the full distribution of preferences this weekend, however, the timing is dependent on the progress of the current count taking into account the large number of postal votes, which can be received up until 9.00am on Thursday, 16 March 2017.

Legislative Council

At present the Commission is continuing to count ballot papers where electors have voted above the line. Data entry of below the line votes into the Commission’s counting system (CountWA) will commence at 5.30pm on Thursday, 16 March 2017, once sufficient numbers of ballot papers have been checked and counted into batches. Data entry will continue until around Wednesday of next week.
