2013 Agricultural and Mining and Pastoral Region Re-counts

On 21 March 2013, the Electoral Commissioner was informed by His Excellency the Governor that the Hon. Mia Davies MLC, Member for the Agricultural Region, and the Hon. Wendy Duncan MLC, Member for the Mining and Pastoral Region, had resigned and their positions had subsequently become vacant.

In accordance with legislative requirements, the vacancies were advertised on Tuesday, 26 March 2013 in The West Australian and The Australian newspapers. Nominations for both vacancies closed at 12 noon on 5 April 2013.

At the close of nominations the Electoral Commissioner had received six formal nominations for the Agricultural Region and four nominations for the Mining and Pastoral Region.

Under the provisions of s.156D of the Electoral Act 1907,  full re-counts of all ballot papers cast in the most recent Legislative Council election, held on 6 September 2008, commenced after the close of nominations on 5 April 2013, having regard for the exclusion of the Hon. Mia Davies MLC in the Agricultural Region, and the Hon. Wendy Duncan MLC in the Mining and Pastoral Region.

On completion of the count, the Electoral Commissioner declared Martin Aldridge and Dave Grills to be elected as members of the Legislative Council for the Agricultural Region and Mining and Pastoral Region respectively. A summary of each count is available for download.
