Early voting now open

Voting has commenced for the 2017 State election, with electors free to vote either at early voting centres around the state, or on polling day.

Electoral Commissioner David Kerslake has advised that anyone wishing to vote early no longer needs to have a specific reason.

“In the past electors were required to declare that for some reason they were unable to vote on polling day.  That rule no longer applies”, Mr Kerslake said.

“If you simply prefer to vote early rather than leave it until polling day, that is your choice”, he said.

Based on the new legislation and trends in other states the Commission expects there to be a significant increase in the level of early voting at this election.

Over 30 early voting centres are open throughout the state to meet elector demand, which is expected to be high.  A list of locations is available on this website.

Postal vote applications can also be lodged directly via the website, with application forms also available at local post offices.

Assistance for electors is available via the elections helpline 136306.

Polling day is Saturday 11 March.
