Election Bulletin 12 January 2017
Election website
The Commission’s 2017 State election website is now live.
Information, various guides and forms of relevance to candidates and parties is available under the Candidates & Parties menu tab. Documents such as nomination forms, candidates’ guides, ballot paper formality guide and scrutineers guide have all been updated.
Candidate briefings
If your political party would like to arrange a briefing from an Electoral Commission officer as part of your candidate training / education program, please contact the Electoral Liaison Officer on (08) 9214 0414. Such briefings can be useful to ensure candidates clearly understand their rights and obligations and can avoid some of the more common pitfalls.
Returning Officers
The name and contact details for both District and Region Returning Officers is available. Select the district or region required from the drop-down menu to view the Returning Officer’s details.
Mobile polling and how-to-vote material
There have been no legislative changes governing mobile polling. Please note that local conditions and protocols at individual venues can impact voting arrangements. Parties and candidates can often leave how-to-vote material with the administration at mobile locations, however, it is best to check with the Returning Officer closer to the election.
The final list of mobile polling locations along with polling place addresses will be gazetted as soon as possible after the issue of the writs on Wednesday, 1 February 2017. Mobile polling can commence from Saturday, 25 February 2017. Dates and times for individual venues will be published progressively on the Commission website from early February 2017 or can be confirmed with District Returning Officers during February / March 2017.
Early voting (in person)
Early voting (in person) commences on Monday, 20 February 2017. This service is likely to be available from 15 locations overseas, 8 interstate and 44 within Western Australia (including 35 sites that will operate for the entire three week period and 9 that will operate on specific days or times such as university campus orientation days and Wagin Woolorama).
The planned locations are listed below. Individual addresses will be published on the Commission’s website later this month. Please note that the renting of commercial premises for such a short period means that some venues are unable to be confirmed until quite close to the commencement of early voting. Furthermore, not all commercial venues will allow party workers on-site. In those situations, arrangements will be made to allow how-to-vote material to be left at each location.
