The Electoral Education Centre can host group visits of up to 80 individuals. Where, possible, presentations can be tailored to suit your requirements.

A typical group visit to the Centre revolves around three main activities, visitors can:

  • watch a stimulating and innovative multi-media presentation in our theatrette
  • participate in a simulated mock election in our ‘polling place’, where participants can cast a vote (candidates are usually different chocolate bars, cars or favourite foods) and help count the result. Teachers are encouraged to bring a class list to serve as an electoral roll
  • visit the interactive displays to learn more about the three levels of government: Commonwealth, State and local government. Activity sheets can be provided for year 5, 6, 9 and 11/12 students. Pencils, files and answer sheets are also available.

Teachers and group coordinators can be provided with information kits and other material prior to a planned visit.

With prior notification, presentations can be tailored to meet the specific needs of any group - in terms of subject matter, style and duration. This includes, for example, personalised mock elections (e.g. class president).

You may wish to combine your visit to the Centre with a tour of Parliament House and an inspection of the Constitutional Centre of Western Australia's displays.
