Legislative Council Ballot Paper Colours

The issue of a slight ballot paper colour change during the ballot paper printing process, from that previously advised at party briefings and on the internet has been raised with the Commission.

The Commission had indicated that the colour of the South Metropolitan Legislative Council ballot paper would be ‘coral’, which appeared in the colour sample colour swatch as an orangey colour.

This was subsequently changed to be more of a pale red colour by the printer as security features embedded on the ballot paper was more effective with the revised colour tone.

The Commission does not believe this is a significant issue as the revised colour remained in broadly the same colour spectrum, and more importantly, remained distinct from the colours utilised for the other five regions. It is not a matter that will cause confusion for electors.

A description of the colours for the six regions is as follows:

  • Agricultural – pale green
  • East Metropolitan – light blue
  • Mining & Pastoral – light brown
  • North Metropolitan – light maroon
  • South Metropolitan – warm red
  • South West – light grey
