1 February 2017
Nominations
Registered political parties are able to lodge all nominations centrally with the WAEC. Parties are advised to arrange a time to meet with the Electoral Liaison Officer to lodge their nominations. Party nominations may be lodged from Thursday, 2 February 2017 until 12 noon Thursday, 9 February 2017.
Independent candidates lodge their nomination with the Returning Officer for the district or region that they are seeking to contest. Candidate nominations open from 6pm Wednesday, 1 February 2017 and close at 12 noon, Friday 10 February 2017.
A list of all nominated candidates will be available on the Commission’s website in due course following the draw for ballot paper positions on the afternoon of Friday, 10 February 2017.
Early voting locations
A list of early voting locations is now available. Early voting commences Monday 20 February 2017.
Authorising election material
A reminder that all electoral advertisements must be authorised with the name and address of the person authorising the material. The address must be a physical address and cannot be a PO Box.
If the material is printed, then it must include the name and place of business of the printer at the foot of the material, unless the advertisement is in a newspaper (in which case the printer is obvious and contactable).
Any advertising on the internet (eg. banner ads) must also be authorised. A website or Facebook site created for campaigning purposes needs to be authorised, however, individual comments posted on social media (eg. such as Twitter or Facebook) do not if part of the general commentary on the site
Mobile polling
Mobile polling at gazetted remote locations within the Mining and Pastoral Region and special institutions can commence from Saturday, 25 February 2017.
Mobile polling dates and times will be published on the Commission’s website during the week commencing 20 February 2017, or can be obtained from the relevant district Returning Officer.
Election day contact person
Registered political parties are asked to provide the contact details for a nominated party representative whom the Commission can contact on election day, should the need arise. Please email the details for the contact person to the Electoral Liaison Officer at fad@waec.wa.gov.au, or provide the details at the time of lodging nominations.
